Heemin Son senses living beings as “beings toward death” and gives sculptural form to attachment and mourning through Future Fossils. She understands evolution as a painful process of transformation driven by the need to survive, attending to both the splendor and pathos embedded within it. For Son, a fossil is a sculpture in which once-living affect lies flattened and buried. It is an object where time, space, and matter become entangled, and a trace of existence that carries stories.
